First of all let me say that the guys here on this site are outstanding and I appreciate your help very much. You helped me work through a couple electical problems a while back and now that the motor is running pretty darn good, there is a small problem that is bugging me. I described this problem with my electical problem post before and Bandit said it was a carb issue. Every once in a while when pulling up to the dock..jockeying from fwd to rev. the motor will die. Usually starts right back up. When I had it out last weekend twice it was a hard starter when shutting down at the dock and attempting to restart shortly thereafter (the motor was warm). It always started up, but one time I had to pull out the throttle arm and give it some throttle while in neutral to get it to light off. I am not ready to tear into these carb's right now. I would rather wait till after the season (hopefully I have that choice). Is there anything I can do as a temp. fix to clean up the carbs? Any kind of carb cleaner I should use? The seafoam stuff? If I have to tear em' down I will...just would prefer not to right now. Thanks guys. |

Stalling engines are sometimes an indication of major problems. At idle there is more time for air to leak from and into the seperate crankcases. So therefor your trouble shooting must start with a compression test and also a spark check to see if you have spark that will jump a gap of 7/16" at each cylinder ( yes 7/16" ).When all that is good you can start looking for fuel reed valve issues. |

my 2 cents, running with a known fuel problem is like playing Russian Roulette. Lack of fuel to 1 cyl means lack of oil, qlick, qlick, BANG |

Thats probably good advice JB. Do you think it is a fuel problem? How would you recommend going about cleaning out the carbs? Should I get a rebuild kit or just take apart and clean? |

that should have been click click bang, there is no simple trick, each carb should be removed and cleaned. Carb kits are usually just gaskets, no floats or needles, always replace gaskets. Engine stalls could be flooding or lean condition. to check for flooding pump bulb and look down each carb throat for fuel dripping. Stalling could just be the idle jets set to lean or as Ikia said above. Either way it won't fix itself. http://www.themarinedoctor.com/fuelproblems.htm |

This won't fix itself. But try the seafoam stuff anyway. Better do the fuel pump on a '93. |

OK I'll get the seafoam for the hell of it..couldn't hurt I don't guess. You think fuel pump in addition to carb kit and cleaning? |
