My Mariner 40EL has a code of 6E9 L and a serial number of 423254. Can anyone tell me the year of this motor? |

I just bought a used Ash Craft with a Mariner 40E outboard. Can someone tell me what year model the Mariner is from the serial number, and how do you tell? Serial number is 6E9 S 100901. Thanks, |

Eva, that's a 1982, Electric start, short shaft, Yamaha built Mariner... The year is not really encoded in the serial, I pull it off a chart. It kinda breaks down like this - 40E - horsepower/Electric start model 6E9 - Yamaha production code for 40 horse motors produced in 1981-on (based on the design of Yamaha 40 horse motors produced between 1981-83) S - short shaft (for 15" transom) 100901 - actual serial |

Great! Thanks so much, Graham. I needed to locate a repair manual for future use and didn't know the year model. Eva |

Thanks to Graham, I know the year model of my Mariner 40E 6E9 S outboard and so have been able to order the manual for it. The manual is being shipped, but I need a quick answer on the correct spark plug gap in the meantime. Does anyone know? |
