Just pulled boat out after winter storage. Boat starts fine but seems to idle rough and shake a bit. I winterized prior to storage, changed oil, lower unit lube, stab-il stabilizer, removed plugs and injectd some engine oil as it says in manual. I also changed the plugs prior to start up. Could this be bad gas, gummed up injectors?} |

Might just be "winter cooties" Drop by your local merc dealer (or marine dealer) and grab yourself a spray can of "Mercury Powertune" (about 5 bucks) and follow the directions on the can. It's not magic in a can, but does do a nice job of clearing all the fogging oil and other crud that collects in the powerhead during storage - you will be amazed at the stuff that comes out of the engine exhaust.... |

Hi Graham, A friend of mine came over to take a listen to the idle on the boat, he has more experience than I do with outboards, he says he wouldn't really call it a rough idle because its not dying out or coming close to dying out. The idle bounces from 800 rpm to max 820 rpm and the boat seems to shake as this is happening. I don't know if this changes anything? I also did not fogg the motor before storage, I removed the plugs and injected some engine oil in and then turned the flywheel, following Merc. manual. Thanks in advance |

I live in Toronto, Canada called around to some Mercury dealers and haven't had any luck finding Quickleen. Anybody out their no where I could get some, maybe Basspro? |

You most likely won't be able to find it (or SeaFoam either - I live in Cambridge just down the road from you). You can go to a Merc dealer and grab a can of PowerTune (about 5 bucks) and follow the directions (spray can) or go to Canadian Tire and grab a bottle of fuel conditioner/carb cleaner (kinda like the STP treatments for cars, but made for 2 strokes). It doesn't do much for cleaning the carb but helps stop clogs, gets some of the varnish out and has the added bonus of keeping the water from separating in the gas... |

Would it be alright to use another manufactures fuel system treatment that goes right in the tank ie: Evinrude. I have seen the Powertune, not really sure where to spray it into on a 4 str efi. Thanks for all the info. This is a great board. |

You can use any brand - the motor doesn't know that it's a Merc And in fact it was probably built by Yamaha (at least the block)... |

On a 02 40hp 4str efi, the air intake is at the lower front of the block. I had to feel around for mine and is similiar to a radiator hose |
