I am having problems with my 94 8HP evinrude outboard motor . the problem seems to be carburator related . It idles great , but when in gear it will shut off unless it is choked .
could this be a problem with the fuel pump ? Carburator is ok .
when the fuel pump was disassembled there was one small spring . Is there supposed to be two ?

It sounds like a carb problem.
Try pumping the fuel line bulb. If there's a problem with the fuel pump or if there is air getting into the line that will overcome it. If it does then start looking at the pump and the fuel line, otherwise a carb clean is probably needed
You should find a diagram of the fuel pump components and rebuilding instructions here http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/OMC/OMC%20info.htm
See the Old OMC pump

could be dirty carb. did you clean it? look for air leaks in gas line, make sure blow all the jet holes out when you do the carb, Mr vicS should be right in trouble shooting the problem

Definetly sounds carby prob.. the carby has three curcuits an idle intermediate and high speed, you need to ensure each is clear and working
