Inherited a 1928 Johnson K-40. Before I invest $100+ in manuals I need to know that I can get parts. For sure I need float bowl cover and hot air tube for carb and gas tank/shroud. Where can I get these parts? Also, anyone know what cylinder compression should be, ignition points gap and fuel mix ratio?

Cliff, The actual parts I need are the complete gas tank assembly (p/n 16-111) and the complete steering handle (p/n 18-183) Part #'s are from original Johnson Parts Catalog. I made a float bowl cover and breather tube so don't need those now. Can you help or direct me to someone who can? Thanks

Anyone know what point gap should be for 1928 Johnson K40, S/N 90935, and also where to position the retard/advance ignition plate to start with and why this plate has to be moved at all once you get the ignition timing in about the right place? Seems to be a very wide range of motion for this and I don't know why.

Unfortunately those parts do not cross or do not have a interchange number but you may find them on the link above
