I currently own an Evinrude 8hp two stroke that is 15 years young and has given me great service over this time. Just recently however, I was on my way to one of many productive fishing holes at about 3/4 throttle when I the motor started to decelerate and then just shut off. I could bring it back to life but, only when I choked it of which I should not have to do once the motor is warm. The problem has no consistency to it. I can run for an hour and nothing but good performance will occur. I have changed out the fuel in my tank, cleaned the filter. I have heard some bad things about ethanol. The engine also cannot idle without cutting out after it is warm. Perhaps I need to get the carb overhauled. Anybody out there been down this road before?

Sure. Check the previous post. Also the fuel pump should be carefully checked out for delivery. Pump rebuild kits are only about $15 for that motor.

My old Lawnboy mower acted similarly. I could cut the grass heading on an incline to the east, and it would run fine. Going west, it would run rough and cut out. Every time. After I poured the water out of the bowl of the carburetor, it took care of the issue!
