i have a 40hp 1986 evinrude. i have a question regarding the tilt. when i tilt the motor up to go in very shallow water, it slowly goes back down again even when i drive slow, is this normal or should it stay up when I'm driving slow? the tilt is mounted on the starboard side of the motor. there are no oil leaks around it, maybe it needs topping up. can anybody advise me on this. and also if it needs refilling what is the procedure. your help is appreciated thanking you in advance Tony |

Its sounds like the piston isn't holding pressure. Check the level of fluid and top off if necessary, see how that works. |

Use ATF Dextron 11 or omc trim and tilt oil Fill until oil runs out the fill bung hole The tilt unit you have was never very strong and would not hold if you went above idle in gear |
