I have some surface damage to a couple of cylinder walls in 1980 70Hp Johnson. What would I use to polish out the damage? What would be best to polish out damage on piston sidewalls as well? Thx, Dave |

Damaged pistons: REPLACE! If cylinders are damaged in a way you may 'feel' it, re-bore to oversize. In your case I think re-bore to oversize with new pistons seems to be solution. |

If this were an old car you could get away with some polishing on the pistons, but the bores need to seal on the rings perfectly. This ain't a car though, and your life might depend on this baby pulling hard at a critical time (like going over a bar or the onset of a storm for example). Listen to Morten on this one. Not worth the risk. |
