I recently became the recipient of this old motor, model # CD23E. It has inspired me to want to build a skiff. How can I determine if it will last much longer, it is clean under the couling, seems to start and run ok in a bucket of water, smokes some. I thought I would put in some new J6C champion plugs but what else can I do? I did just order a owners manual, I hope its the right one. I believe the motor was made in 1966? Can anyone tell me what I have, how can I tune it up, and how long does a motor last. I would be disappointed to build this boat then have the motor die on me. Help please. Thanks Mark.

If properly maintained they will last forever.
Even if their not to abused they will last
decades.
Here is a link to a series of articles about
reviving old OMC outboards.
I learned a lot from this site.
