I think I have found my answer in this previous post but wanted to ask in case I'm missing something. I have a 1990 Johnson 150GT with VRO. I replaced the fuel primer bulb about a year ago because it was cracked and leaking. Since then, sometimes when I first pump the bulb before a cold start, it will go flat like it is being restricted. Usually in a few minutes it corrects itself and works fine the rest of the day. Last Saturday was different. It went flat and stayed that way until I removed everything from the bulb to the tank. The bulb by itself seemed to work fine, I checked each section of hose for obstruction, and checked the antisiphon valve by working it back and forth with a screwdriver. Everything seemed to be fine. I put it all back together and pumped the bulb. It didn't work as well as it should but better than before. After cranking the engine and letting it warm up, I took it for a run. It took off good but would not get above 45 mph at 4000 to 4500 rpm. Normal is 55mph at 5300 rpm. I looked back and could see that the bulb was again sucked flat. I slowed down to idle speed and it corrected itself. Each time I did this I got the same results, normal operation at low end but lower top end speed and surging as if starving for fuel. Should I start by knocking out the check valve as suggested in the earlier post or replace it? Thanks }

If the fuel primer bulb functions as it should when it is disconnected from the tank.......

Either you are incorrect in thinking that the anti siphon valve is fine OR there's an obstruction within the tank clogging the internal supply line.

Could ventilation to the tank, try removing the filler cap and test..Also check the tank ventilation hose and end for spider web or debris..
If all checks out ok replace tank check valve I will not recommend to remove it at this point, hey it was working all along ?
