Hi there, I was looking to get some advice, I am about to buy an 82 starcraft with a 75 horse Evinrude on it. The problem the boat has is that it has not been started in a few years, I plan to go see the boat tomorrow again. I would greatly appreciate any advice I can get from everyone with starting this motor for the first time and hopefully buying it tomorrow. Here is what I do have planned for tomorrow. 1). I would like to pull the spark plugs and spray the cylinders down with either WD-40 or Marvel mystery Oil. 2). Hook up my jump starter. 3). Cycle the Hydrolics raise and lower the motor a few times. 4). Hook up my compresion tester verify equal pressure in all 3 cylinders. 5). Hook up spark plug tester verify voltage and spark. 6). See if motor will start. If anyone has any other suggestions can you please Post them for me. And once again thank you in advance. |

I'd use fogging oil. Clean and gap the plugs, and let her rip. |

Sitting for that length of time, the carburetors are fouled. A fouled carburetor will cause the engine to run lean, resulting in improper lubrication, damaged pistons, etc. Remove the carburetors, clean, and rebuild them. Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay store at: http://stores.ebay.com/Evinrude-Johnson-Outboard-Parts-etc?refid=store |

I did as you are considering. Mine a 68' Starcraft with a 73' 65HP. Boat sat for 13 years and 4 more in my driveway, before being almost completed this July. We have had 3 outings in it already. Inside of my carbs looked like it ran on tar instead of gasoline. Took me a full week to clean all three. TAKE PICTURES before you remove them! I also replaced all fuel components due to age. Water pump and plugs of course. |
