gidday Gents
Could some kind person advise if its ok to run my motor with the lower unit completely removed ?. I have a bugger of a rattle but not sure if from engine or Gear box. tried the bush stethiscope ( screwdriver in the ear) but still cant make out where its comming from. I would think that as long as its getting water shouldnt be a prob, only concern is motor running with absolutly no load ( gear box ) , my local service guy reckons " ahh shell be right ??? . Thanks in advance

Put the water hose straight on the water tube coming down from engine.
However with the exhaust noise, you will not hear much!

Put the leg in a drum with water. Might bubble and 'spray' a bit, but probably the only way to 'silence' it.
My guess is that your pistons are the noisy ones.
Comp test?
