My engine did the same thing until I changed the fuel filter. Before you start tearing stuff apart - make sure the carb is getting fuel. If I pumped the primer ball while at WOT every 8-10 seconds, the carb would not run out of fuel and the engine would run great. Now that I changed the fuel filter, the FP can pump the needed fuel at WOT without me squeezing the primer ball as described to keep the engine running while at WOT. Mind you my engine is a 1954 10hp (with fuel pump), so there may be some differences. But a clogged filter is a clogged filter. |

Ian, I am always sceptical of the fuel tanks whenever I see this problem. Not knowing the condition of your system, Just note that I have found loose pickup tubes in the tanks and that causes the motor to draw air. That will mess up things with engine performance. Also, the float level could possibly be low. That will cause problems because there is not enough fuel in the bowl to sustain higher RPMs.. |

The vent valve should be open during operation.. keep at it - something will show up. |
