As a general rule of thumb, what is the timeframe in which an impeller on any outboard lower unit should be changed? |

It might depend a lot from engine type, but a maximum is about 5 years. Take the small 9,9/15 it is 2 years, and Ive seen impellers up to 10 years still in good condition on bigger engines. |

Morten - This particular motor is a 50 hp and it's 10 years old without the impeller being replaced. I'm getting water out the pee-tube but having problems with the temp horn going off after a long idle. Increase the rpm and the horn shuts off. I'm thrown off a bit about root-cause being the impeller because water is getting pumped out of the pee-hole. However, I also understand that it still could be the impeller too. |

More than 5 years -change impeller and thermostat, particularly if run in salt water. |
