my motor takes forever to get up on plain in fact i need someone to get in the front of the the boat to plain it out but once it plains it runs great anyone got any ideas}}}}

have you tried different pitch props,is there any excess water(weight) in the unit?

ck the compression,and spark....that,and the 78,is THE,..most overhauled eng i have ever been around....i highly doubt,that it has NOT ,been overhauled,however,..if the same pistons were used....she'll blow over and over!

i have not tried different props, I think the one on it now is a 13 1/4 x 17 the motor came off a cuddy cabin 19 foot i think and I put it on a 15 foot champion bass boat the prop is pretty chewed up and i need to replace it what size do you think i should try? what water are you refering to it has 2 7 gallon live wells

i will retest the compression and spark i think they are both good all electronics on motor are new bought it that way what should the compression be at?

John Open the Engine cover look around the bottom for excess oil and gas could have the same issue I am working on now? check the post for the 1995 90hp Johnson I will post the results in a couple days if it fixes the problem.

water logged transom soaked into flotation material/excesss water in bilge etc,water in live well should have been designed for the unit ,for it to perform with that engine.

If the motor came off a cuddy cabin, is it possible that it is a 25" shaft? What size transom do you have on the 15'? I suspect that the bass boat has a 20" transom on it. You may be too deep in the water with this motor.

thank to everyone the motor has good compression in all cyl. there is no extra water weight i will have to check the shaft length tonight and excess gas and oil in the cowl hope to get it running good by sat.

Check the archives on this site I think I seen another Motor with the same problem that ended up being dirty or damaged carbs. Might be same year model motor not sure been reading alot lately since I am still working on my issue also.

If using a tachometer, what is the rpm reading when that engine finally gets to its top performance level?
