2004 50hp Johnson. Nothing but exhaust coming out of water pump indicator. If I cover it with my finger, bubbles come out at lower water intake. Tried blowing it out with air, but no obstructions. Odd thing is engine is not overheating. Why wouldn't I be getting a water discharge from indicator? Thoughts welcome! |

It sounds as though you might be putting your finger over an exhaust relief port rather than a water pump indicator (pee hole) But you have not told us which engine, 2 stroke or 4 stroke. model number ?? |

Sorry for lack of detail. It's a 4-stroke, model PL4. I'll look to see if indeed there's another pee hole - did not know about the exhaust relief port. |

Issue resolved. It turns out the 2004 Johnson 50hp 4-stroke discharges the indicator water into an exhaust port. You cannot get a cleanout wire into the port and then vertically into the discharge tube, and must instead remove lower motor cowls and disconnect the tube to clean. |
