Never serviced before, I bought this motor brand new in 1984 and it did well (few days per year for fishing)until my last fishing trip when it started to overheat (steam at the water exit). This soft plastic pin was in the circuit of water...look at the picture...is it a piece lost at the factory which was jammed somewhere between the impeller and the motor and suddenly moved to the hole ? (inlet screen is intact and the propeller is intact too) Could it be a part which is coming from the motor ???

The pin is there from the factory, but don't as me about the function. I have removed a lot of them! Change Your impeller, remove the pin and start. |

If the pin is there from the factory, it might be to have the right running temperature by restricting the volume of water circulation...if I remove it, the motor could run at a lower temperature and cause other problem...did you encounter some other problem after removing the pin ? |

No, it mainly solved a cooling problem. I'm not sure if the pin 'swells' during the years. A known problem with these engines however is the upper water tube grommet under the power head. |

Thank you for your help, very helpfull and appreciated...I do not see the grommet but the water tube is in a good position and does not move too much... I ordered a gasket for the cover today...I hope it will be back in good shape soon for years... |
