I have a 85 Hp Evinrude with a Johnson hydro-electric control. Inside the box there are 3 loose wires: Black, Grey, and Purple/Green. does anyone know where these go or have a wiring diagram for the remote?

Are those three wires leading directly out of the wiring harness that runs from the engine to the control box? They are attached to something on one end, what is it?

I took the remote apart and this is where the wires are located:

From Engine Cable:
RED to BAT on keyed switch
WHITE to ST on keyed switch
PURPLE to IGN on keyed switch
BROWN to Toggle Switch (Horiontal)
PURPLE/WHITE to Toggle Switch (Vertical)
BLACK to ???
GREY to ???
PURPLE/GREEN to 4 of 4-prong white connector
2nd PURPLE/GREEN spliced from same side of
connector to black diode then to 2nd terminal
of IGN on keyed switch
GREEN to 2 of 4-prong white connector.
BLUE to 1 of 4-prong white connector.

Coming out the other side of white connector

BLUE from 1 terminal to switch on bottom left
corner of remote.
GREEN from 2 terminal to switch on bottom left
corner of remote.
PURPLE/GREEN from 4 terminal to switch on bottom
left corner of remote.
2nd PURPLE/GREEN spliced from 4 terminal to ???

I noticed a hole on top of remote labeled HOT LIGHT. Could this be for the grey and black wires?

thanks for the information. I took the boat in the water and it only had forward. The motor will rev in reverse but does not engage into gear. How do I fix this? Will it hurt the unit to run it this way?

OK. Reverse if fixed. I have been on the water several times. The last time I noticed a strange noise and now I do not have forward.

When not running, the prop spins freely and does not spin in forward when running. I am afraid I broke something in the gear case.

What would cause no forward in this engine?
