I installed a new VRO pump on a 98 J150EXECD, and the NO OIL ALARM does not work. I did the clear hose test, and the pump draws oil fine- amazing how fast it moves!(I am using fuel from a pre-mix tank for testing) I plugged the old VRO electrical connector back in and the NO OIL ALARM sounds at about 2000RPM.
Does anyone have any suggestions, or am I just hosed because I can't return the new pump?
Thanks,
Dave

David,
How long did you end up running it once the oil is exhausted? The reason I ask is that there can be somewhat of a delay before the horn activates. At idle, the pump can go a minute or so between cycles. By the time the sensor misses enough cycles to sound the alarm, several minutes could have gone by. I've only tested them at idle, so I don't know if they alarm sooner at higher speeds.

I think I ran it several minutes at 1500 and up to 2000 for a few seconds. When I plugged the old one in ( just the plug-not the fuel) it came on when I went to 2000. The test instructions say test at 1500, but dont give a time. I may not have given time enough- concern for neighbors- smoke and noise- I'll launch and try on the water! Thanks for the suggestion!

Dcramer, thanks for the patience advice. After 5 timed minutes at idle with no alarm, I went to 1500 and alarm went off at exactly 2 more minutes. I am very happy about this! Thanks
Dave
