I just got this motor and I am looking for the basic things I should know before I run it and ruin it. Model # 6903m e01200. Is the correct oil/fuil mix 50:1 or thicker. I also read a previous post about pulling the prop and greasing the shaft does that apply to this motor?

yep 50:1 is the mix and a little grease on the prop spline wont hurt, also check gear oil in lower unit, water pump impeller/for proper cooling.make sure carb is clean and plugs are in good condition/proper color, not black or washed(steam cleaned)

Is there a special gear oil and how full do I fill it to the top of the plug? I have some 90w auto gear oil would that be ok to use? How do I check the water pump impeller? Do i kust look for water coming out of the exhaust?

Checking/ draining and renewing the gear oil more important that greasing the prop shaft. Any milkiness indicates water ingress and should be investigated and rectified.

It would be wise to renew the waterpump impeller unless you know it has been replaced recently.

No cooling water telltale as such but look for water being sprayed out of the exhaust relief and check that it does not overheat when you get it running.

Plugs should be J6C gapped at 0.030"

I have to confess to using an automotive EP90 oil but you should use an outboard gear oil. That, they say, contains extra inhibitors to guard against the effect of water ingress.

Fill from the bottom until it flows from the top plug. (use new seals)

Be sure to correctly identify the two plugs (on the port side. DO NOT remove the pivot pin at the bottom on the starboard side or the shift mechanism inside will come adrift.

See diagram HERE The plugs are #22 the pivot pin is #28

That makes sence. I was trying to fill from the top what a mess.
New problem. Motor starts but runs rough and will only speed up if I choke the motor.
