1979 Evinrude 85hp 85999R

My boat has sat for 9 months. Went to take it out today. Had to manualy choke it and hold throttle open to start it. FInally got it running. Ran great wide open 5,100 rpms 41 mph. Ran this way for 15 minutes Stopped and it would not restart. SOmetime it will kick over and run for a second and thats it. ANy ideas? I did put stabalizer in the tank back 9 months ago. Great running wide open wil not idle or start back up. Compression 140 all 4 spark jumps great.

Does that mean they need to be rebuilt again?

Possible that you may be able to reuse gaskets etc, BUT the carbs will need cleaning.

As cheap as the rebuild kits are I will just use all new gaskets ect. Hope this fixes the problem.

Be sure to manually clean the high speed jets located in the bottom center portion of the float chambers.

try tilting the motor to the point where its still getting cooling water and see if it runs any better..if it does you got water in the gas..i would replace the gas anyway...9 months in florida heat and humidity and you got a lot of condensation...more than treatment can handle..same here in louisiana..
