I bought a boat with a 1986 Johnson VRO 40 hp. The #s are J40ELCDE , the VRO is not there and wires are disconnected and lines are plugged. Can I change the fuel pump to the NON VRO type ?
I am buying rebuild kits for the carbs also. ( wont run over a high idle under load)plugs look good. I look for the parts and I put the numbers in and all the parts I find say for non vro. Maybe this has been done already im not shure.I was just wondering if they would fit the same and if they would hurt the motor.
Thanks
Mike

Thank You, So I can just buy the non vro pump to replace it if I dont rebuild the pump thats in it? Also when I put the engine numbers in I get (1) so I look at the notes to see what it is. It says commercial. Is this a different type of motor?

Thanks For the help. Thanks for the part no. but I just want to fix the stuff thats on the motor now. I would rather mix my gas and oil than put the vro back in.
