Buddy of mine gave me his dad's old boat a couple weeks ago. Got it fired up and ordered a waterpump. Tool bolts out of l/u but it wont drop down. Is there anything to be taken loose to release the driveshaft from up top? I seem to be missing a critical step.

Ya starboard side under a 2 bolt cover. Then another cover under that one. Undo the bottom bolt and it should slide free.

Got it done last night. Sorry forgot to mention electric shift. Just routed wires down and gave a bit of a tug and shaft came out. Thanks for the replies. Now on to the transom replacement!
