hi can anyone give me advice on hrydrofoils for outboards do they help any. i see on the advert it says helps lower petrol consumpion, smoother ride, reduced planing time, ect ect.

its a cheap way to fix the problem of a underpowered
motor as far as the rest I believe its just sales hype but it will put you on plane allot faster or maybe even make you boat plane if it cant on its own now
without it on my boat I cannot get out of the hole with a full fuel tank a full live well and two people on board with gear

hi cliff thanx for your responce the boat i have is a 17ft shetland sheltie with a 30hp johnson outboard it takes its time to plane i just thought i would ask before i buy in the cabin i keep the anchor and all sorts of gear plus 3 of us fishing maybe a larger outboard would be better

wouldn't hurt I have 140 behind my 18.5 skeeter and its still not enough i should have 1 175

Hi Ian: I have used a hydrofoil for a number of years and they definitely make a difference. I currently have a 16 ft side console Alum. boat with 40 hp outboard. I added a Sting Ray hydrofoil to it and it definitely made a difference. I would recommend one. The back of the boat lifts right up with it. I also raised the motor one hole on the transom & adjusted the motor in one hole which also helped. You may also want to make sure you are propped correctly. Ray A.
