Hi fellas, This forum is awesome ! I have learned so much over the last few weeks , thanks to all that participate ! I bought a pontoon with a 1989 50 hp Johnson that I've been trying to get lined out . ( it's not cooperating...lol ) I have a distant family member that is getting a 70 hp Johnson through a trade . I am not sure of the year at this point . He is offering it to me for $ 100 which I know is probably a steal . It supposedly runs great . Here is my question . My "new " mechanic is doing everything he can to get ownership of my 50 hp . Is there a reason ? Is the 50 a better motor than the 70 ?? Is it better on fuel ?? Is there a reason I'm feeling like somethings not right with this picture or am I being paranoid ?? Prices on ebay seem to be higher also . So what gives . I would appreciate all your opinions and feedback on this . Thanks ahead of time, dw |

Just be sure You get the right propeller for it. The 70 likes to be reved and not 'stressed' to far down at WOT. On the rig You mentioned, pontoon, You might even be better off with a 45 Commercial with the 3/4 cyl gearcase! |
