here's my problem ! check engine light comes on and stays on when I put some load (2500 rpm) on the engine and knocks it down to 1200 rpm. we drained some fuel out of tank to see if water in tank --- no water. pee stream appears to be ok ! }fuel problem ? water pump problem ? Help !! one more thing -- tach is not working --- happened about same time this problem occurred ! coincidence ? connection ? thanks for your help ! |

The engine is going into SLOW mode. The check engine light means that there is a code that will tell what is wrong. If you want more information I will check my book to give you an idea of what it might be but it's hard to say for sure without hooking it up to the software. |

at my last count,i believe there are 33 things,that could set off ck eng lite on a ficht..that is an expensive eng,that cant normally be repaired in the backyard..i suggest u take to a dealer. |

jwb might be right but i only see 3 things that cause SLOW mode with check engine light. code 17-alternator voltage below expected range code 18-alternator voltage above expected range code 25- EMM sensor circuit above expected range I am no expert but these things are pretty simple to check and thought this might help. |

I agree with shea - but I too am no expert. However, I just received my E/J Outboard Repair Manual and the 3 things you mention appear to be what ails my motor. If not then it appears to be a fuel issue which I will need to explore. In any event I plan on having a dealer hook up the diagnostic software and see what the service codes show. Thanks for your help ! Anyone else with an opinion please let me know. Thanks to all. |
