Thanks for your help on my last post!! I have since received my owners manual ordered from this site. A couple of more questions....when I checked the lower gear lube it was milky. I asked the person I got the motor from and he said he had not changed the gear lube "in years". The manual explains how to change it but says I need a Type C lube. I can't seem to find this, is there another type of lube to use? Also, do I have a bigger issue on my hands with the milky lube than just changing it and if so what are your thoughts. Thanks again for helping this rookie out.

The "Type C" lube is also known as "Premium Blend" BUT your engine is a manuals shift model and does not use this type lube. This lube is strictly for the electric shift and shift assist models.

Your engine uses what is called "HiVis" 80/90w gearlube and is available at Wal*Mart, K-Mart, many other stores, and also your local dealership at a somewhat higher price. The container will state "HiVis" on the container and will also have a notation that it is for the outboard engine.

Sounds like this motor has had little regular care. When you have the lower unit off to do the lower unit seal kit, you might as well get a water pump kit as well. Dont give up, these 9.5's are good motors, and the repair kits you need are'nt really that expensive. Check out the thermostat as well, an item thats cheap to keep it in good shape.
