Good morning can anyone tell me if milky colour in drained gear fluid can be caused by condensation over a 2-3 year period?( rather then a water leak into the lower unit). Drained my fluid from old 1408430 1978 140 hp, and saw that the first 10-15% that came out was slightly milky, then the bulk 80% dark and the last 10-15% was milky again. Replaced fluid and used oil pump bottle to push more fluid in (about 6-8 pumps) and see if there were any noticable leaks. non could be seen or heard, over 15-20 min period. when loosened pump, spat oil 3 meters. would this in a primative way, equate to a form of pressure testing the lower unit ?. |

There is no such thing as condensation getting into a lower unit. A good lower unit is completely sealed----no air can get in or out----No water can leak in----no oil can leak out. Simple really. |

Thanks Ikia, as per my prev post, would the length of time that this fluid has been in the box cause the colour to be what it was ?. or is it straight water in lower unit, get it pressure tested proberly, and fixed ?. |
