i am looking at buying a boat with a 1990 150hp johnson. there was a compression check done on the motor. four cylinders had 100 while another had 90 and the last one had 70. i've been told by a mechanic to remove the spark plugs, spray carb cleaner in the cylinders, let it sit overnight, and then run the motor, that will blow out all the deposits in the heads. but will that effect the compression in the cyclinders, or am i looking at a costly repair on the motor. |

You have 30 psi difference between the highest and lowest cylinder compression readings. That spells trouble and I'd recommend that the cylinder heads be removed in order to inspect the pistons and cylinder walls, etc. |
