Just wondering if anyone can help out here. Took the boat out today and it runs fine. When put into gear i could only go a quarter throttle and then the engine would race. The revs would pick up but it felt like the prop wasn t spinning.Would it be fair to say the hub in the prop is spinning when the engine is under load?Thxs in advance for any help.jeff f

Jeff.... That is exactly what it sounds like. I'm assuming that the engine ran well at one time on that same boat.

Larry... Use a hand help propane torch to heat the are where that release latch is. That should allow you to turn it.

Anyone in area? What area?

Thank you joe for your response. Just a little background.I bought this boat at auction last fall. Replaced water impeller and housing. also new prop shaft seals. No water getting into the lower unit.I ve never run this boat yet until now. Just wondering if it could be anything else other than the hub spinning.Thxs for your responses. Ill be sure to check out your store. Thxs again jeff f

Jeff.... you can momentarily remove the prop nut, then mark the hub and the propeller with a magic marker. Replace the prop nut and run the engine, then check those marks, which if they are now out of line proves that the hub is slipping.

You can also block the propeller with a piece of wood, put the engine in gear, then apply turning pressure to the flywheel with a long breaker bar and socket. If the prop nut turns on that blocked propeller, then again it's obvious that the hub is slipping.
