hello all. I'm a complete newbie so be easy on the termanology with me please
My friend just got a used boat with a 2001 Johnson 50 hp motor on it. He's completely computer illiterate which explains me trying to figure this out for him.
Here's the problem: when he first got the boat everything was fine. No problems. This last weekend and everytime since there's been one. It starts ok and when at half throttle it runs fine. Whenever you go to full throttle (I think there's a term for it?) it runs for 30 sec's then completely shuts down. It starts right back up after just fine.
Any suggestions would be very helpful. Glad you guys are out there! |

sounds like a fuel issue....poss water in fuel...u need to determine,if it is fuel,or ignition or cooling related,.any horns going off?...
here r the basics,u 2 may can do--
ck spark....both ok?
ck compression--fairly even?
chg fuel filters.
since runs for 30 sec and dies,..i would certainly bet on fuel,..or overheat...pumping lots of water?get a glass container,disc fuel line at eng,and using primer bulb,take a sample of fuel and look for water. |

thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look.
Also, the engine completely shuts off after the 30 sec's if that had any bearing. |
