Yamaha 25 HP - Adding Rectifier. What kind of battery do I need?

I'm adding a rectifier to my 25HP manual start Yamaha. I will only be using the battery for a fish locator and marine radio. What kind of battery should I use?

Can I use a cranking (starting) battery vs Deep Cycle?

A flooded lead acid deep cycle (sealed or unsealed) will offer the best bang for the buck as long as it is used for just the fish locator and radio. Don't be expecting the motor to recharge a somewhat depleted battery unless the motor is run for a long long time at a high speed setting.

Having said that, I don't think you will see much difference between a deep cycle and a starting battery over time.

Thanks! Thoughts on using a 12v Tracker / ATV battery? A local Farm and Fleet has them for ~$26.
