Hey guys, bit of a story here. Followed with two questions on two models
I own a 1982 18hp mercury.
Dogs wouldnt catch on the flywheel.. parts a bit pricey, so I went and purchased a cheap parts motor.
The parts outboard is a 1989 25hp mercury
Previous owner said it ran awesome. Until oneday he heard a loud squeal. And it locked up.
Heres where it get somewhat interesting.
The recoil from the 89. Can save and repair my 18hp. (Solved)
But can I save the 1989 25 hp?
Question 1
I can spin the flywheel by hand until a certain point. Than its too tight by hand.
Also theres a noticeable amount of endplay in the flywheel in comparison to the 18hp..
I removed plugs. And i do have compression up until tightness.
I can also reverse the flywheel by hand a full rotation no issue..
any ideas?
Question 2
can I save the other recoil?
with the recoil on the table.
When pulled the dogs tend to do their own thing instead of engaging. I didnt pull it apart yet. But springs on dogs seem intact. Could it be an internal spring? Or worn dog spring?
