Stay away from the early Chrysler's.
Up to the early 80's on the bigger motors (past 55hp)they still used distributors.
Then they went to a electronic ignition, Prestolite
The early up till 87 had the plug in connectors on all the parts.
87 and up used the screw down connectors and they had better results.
Then in 1992 they started using Mercury ignitions, not on all motors.
Then in 95 they went straight Mercury, ignition and drives and mid sections.
If I was gonna use a Force? I'd use any from 87
I had 4 88/85 on 2 different boats.
Never had any real trouble until the salt water ate the transom clamps and the connecting gear.
Even the 150 wasn't too bad just don't get the first year 1989
