My Mercury model 200 (20h

My Mercury model 200 (20hp} has the serial #3137471. Anyone know what year it is? Also it is missing at times but starts easily always. When attempting to wot it sometimes bogs down and suddenly takes off like it should. It really pushes my 14ft Alumnacraft along perfectly until it decices to bog down. thanx for any help billbro

My bet would be to check the coils. I've had two 1970s 20hp Mercs in my shop recently with cracked coils. Both were evidenced by a "cracking" sound as the coils arced to the mounting plate. Both motors skipped at idle and picked up the cylinder at speed. Replaced the coils and it was off to the races. Neither motor misses a beat now...
The 1971 20s had a "maker point" system. Some parts are pricey (maker points and armature donut) so make sure you're certain when you replace something.
