water seperator soft bulb

I changed the water seporator on my 75 hp merc 3cyl and the bulb went soft and will not pump up. Shuold I have filled the seperator with fuel before the install??

The bulb is a manual fuel pump and it will fill the seperator no problem.----------------If the bulb does not go hard you have 4 possible problems----- # 1 bad check valves in the bulb---#2 leaking float valves in carburetor ---#3 a fuel pump diaphragm that is ruptured.------#4 restriction / blockage before the bulb----------All are easy to check out.

Thanks I thought the fuel pump may be bad and allready bought a rebiuld kit for it and a new bulb

You might have an air leak. Bad news!
