Are they one in the same, my V drive has the dip stick and the transmission has sq. plug.
Question do I go by the dip stick in the V drive or also see how much oil is in the gear box?
i put a stick down the trans hole about 4" till I made contact with fluid. I can't find anything in
my manuals that tells me what that other plug is for. They hook up to my Crusader 502s.'89

This is where a picture (or two) would be worth a lot.....the data from the ID plates of the gear and v-drive may be enough otherwise

Short answer is it depends; some gears (transmissions) can have an integrated V-drive.....

One way to tell is to look at the raw water routing - a separate oil cooler (not the U-shaped one) it a good indicator of a separated oil system on a V-Drive...
