VRO smoking

My 60hp Evinrude is smoking and getting very hot on the oil side. The smoke is rolling right off the oil side right in the center. Any ideas as to why? I was thinking maybe the diaphram on the fuel side is leaking., but would that actually cause fire? Thanks

Start with a model # of your motor.------------There is no reason for smoke to be coming off a VRO pump.-----------And VRO pumps are very easy to take apart for inspection.--------Perhaps look for a hole in the block.----Perhaps the pulse line to the VRO pump is leaking.

I found the problem. I'm guessing this electrical component on the back side of the vro is simply for low or no oil notification (alarm, buzzer etc). Assuming it has not melted to the point where oil will leak out, can I unplug it and still use the vro? Aside from this issue there are no issues with the fuel and oil getting into the engine.
