Volvo Penta 5.7 popping above 2700rpm on 2001 Four Winns Vista 268

Bought my first boat (2001 Four Winns Vista 268) this summer and it ran great all summer besides some minor damage to the duo props, which were repaired. Took it out in late September and once up on plane, it began popping. It stops at lower speeds/rpm’s and when it’s happening, it’s often but not in a predictable rhythm. It starts almost right away once I hit about 2700rpm and stops as soon as I back off. Thanks for any feedback.

Ayuh,..... Odds are it's got water in the fuel, 'n goin' lean,.....

Change the fuel filter, 'n try it,.....

Dump the old filter into a clear jar, 'n inspect for water,....

The first thing I did was start with the spark plugs and found the first one removed had oil coating the threads.
