I have a 1984 Bayliner, with VOLVO 4CL 120 HP engine, the timing belt jumps out of timing, anyone have any answers why ?

Re: Volvo 4 CL 120 HP

Yes! It is old, and needs to be replaced. These are "wear items".

Also, replace the tensioner while at it. The automotive tensioner is same.

See your Volvo Penta OEM service manual for the procedure.
Be sure to check your ignition TA when done. Base is one thing.... but TA is of greater importance, IMO.
Again, See your Volvo Penta OEM service manual.

Use caution when removing any fasteners if this boat is at all crusty from Salt Water exposure.
Heat is your friend at the thread inserts!

better check the raw water pump also to make sure it is not locked up!! I have seen them cause an engine to repeatedly jump time.
