I discovered by tapping on the starter motor aligned the brushes and would serve as a temporary fix to starting my Univeral diesel engine. I was able to locate the right replacement starter and solenoid and completed the rather easy replacement. Once in place however, the engine did not fire after the new unit was installed. The engine turns over, but doesn't fire. I will say the batteries seem a little weak, not turning over the engine as quickly as usual. Could that be the problem?
I did not open any fue lines so I have to believe there is no air in the lines.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Jeff
