Turns over but want fire

Just bought 1980 50 hp mercury 2 stroke 4 cyclinder put it on boat and now it will turn over but no fire. Pulled out plug held to motor but no fire

First disconnect the mercury switch and kill circuit and try again,you'll need to choke it to stop if it kicks in.

Did you mean to choke it when starting or not

You will need the choke to start,these old Mercs like a lot of juice when cold,IF it starts and you have the kill circuit disconnected,you'll need to choke her to stop.As it's the kill circuit you are checking,see if you have spark.If not,check the trigger,if the trigger passes spec then I'm guessing switch box done
