Trouble removing Evinrude 30hp lower unit

Hey guys, I've watched a ton of videos on this removal but am having an incredibly painful time On all the videos the bolt attached to the shaft seems to slide off, mine will not budge and I cannot remove the lower unit without doing so.

In the photo attached, the nut on the right is the one I'm referring too

If the paint has NOT been removed from the upper rod , do so now.-----Then slide that nut UP.-----Then remove the black plastic keeper.-----It is split.-----Do not loose that keeper as it is pricy and can be re-used if not damaged.
