trim problems

I have a 1986 alpha one outdrive. The problem is the drive will lower but won't raise. When I hit the trim down button it goes down but when I hit the trim up or trailer button it won't go up. I had to use a wire off the positive battery terminal and stick it in the plug that connects to the power trim to raise it. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this problem? So looking at this diagram it's either a relay or a solenoid. Can someone tell which one would be the cause of my problem?

if you can jump it thru the three pin connector it is not a solenoid. It is a wiring issue, have you had the control handle off lately?

check the wiring from the handle to the connector.
