I have a 275 outdrive. The tilt motor has been bogging down or not starting. I took it off and hooked it directly to the battery and it made a move to start then stopped. I gave it a rap with a wrench and it started up. After doing that a few times with the polarity each way, I reinstalled and it worked good for a while and then stopped again.
Tonight, I did it again and sprayed some silicone lubricant on the spindle and tried to get it to soak down. It seems to be working again, but for how long?
Is this motor repairable?
Can I install new brushes or will it explode in my hands when I take it apart?
I have not been able to find a shop in town that rebuilds DC motors.
