Tilt and trim questions. 1984 edson intruder

Hey everyone!

I have to admit I'm pretty green when it comes to inboard stern drive boats.
Just purchased my first one, it's a 1984 edson intruder with a 200hp 305 v8 and a 800 stern drive.

The problem I'm having is I've never had a boat with separate controls for the tilt and trim.
The tilt is on the dash and controls the stern drive while the trim is on the throttle and controls the engine pivot.

My question is, what is the process for running this set up? Do I drop the stern all the way and trim it with the engine? Do I need to touch the engine time at all?
I've only ever had outboards before this and am kinda confused.

Thanks for any advice in advance and I hope this isn't too stupid of a question.

Yes,tilt the sterndrive all the way down, then control the trim with the trim switch.Replaced quite a few drive knuckles because the operator did'nt have the drive all the way down.
