Thrust Tilt Adjustment Rod and Power Tilt/Trim

I bought, rebuilt, and installed power tilt and trim for my '75 85 hp Johnson. Am I supposed to use or remove the thrust tilt adjustment rod?

Remove it or at least put it in the hole closest to the transom.

The cylinder is blocking the hole closet to the transom. I'll remove it.
