Testing Alarm Buzzer

Quick question for someone savvy with electronic wiring. I have a 90HP evinrude on my 19923 sunbird. Doesn't seem like my alarm buzzer is working. It has a purple and a tan wire, as well as a black wire. I assume the black is ground, purple is +, and tan is negative. With this alarm removed, what's the best method to see if i can make this thing make a noise. thanks!

Ground out the tan wire (if that's your negative return from the buzzer).

The (sensors) on these basic alarms are all resistance based - if the (sensor) detects a problem it "closes" it's circuit sending the current "to ground" completing the buzzer circuit and "beeeeeeep" :)

I'll take a crack at it. Thanks Graham.
