I took my tach out because it always reads 2000rpm.
I have it in my hand and it reads 1600.

Is there a way to test my Tachometer or to verify the signal coming to it?

I have the Tach sitting on my desk.
I have a signal generator that produces a 5vdc or 12vdc pulse train.
I bought this Seloc Mercruiser Stern Drive repair manual that is helpful, but all the details I seem to need are not in it.
Does anyone know or know where to get the Tach Signal Voltage and Frequency Range for a 3.0L?

Okay, 7 weeks have gone by and I finally got my repaired Tachometer back from Faria. They charged $35.
For those who are interested....
To test your tachometer:
1. Connect 12Vdc to the Tach Battery Terminal
2. Connect 12Vdc- to the Tach GND Terminal
3. Using a signal generator (I used Extech Instruments CMM-17), connect the (+) Lead to Tach SIG Terminal, connect the (-) lead to the Tach GND Terminal.
4. Set the Sig Generator output to 12Vdc Square Wave Output, 50% duty cycle, and Hz
5. My tach is a Faria TC9983 (0-6000rpm).
6. Tach Selector on 4-Cyl 0-200Hz = 0-6000rpm, 6-cyl 0-300Hz and 8-cyl 0-400Hz.

Hope this helps anyone else trying to test their tachometer.
