Tach not working.

Last week tach quit working all of the sudden. Then I noticed some of the wires from voltage rectifier were burnt. Replaced voltage regulator and replaced wires. Installed new battery. Thought problems should have been solved. No such luck. Tach still not working at all. Not completely certain it's charging. Voltage show 12.

you need to make sure the engine is charging the battery first...the tach signal usually comes from the regulator assembly....

of course knowing which engine you have helps to eliminate ambiguous assumptions....

Battery is charging after changing the voltage regulator, but tach is still not moving. If you crank it tach hand moves backward a hair but that's it. Any suggestions?

Did you get a replacement rectifier from Mercury or CDI? I purchased one from Amazon and it would charge, but no tach. I returned it.
